AZmed, one of the leading AI radiology companies, and Nexus-MD, a U.S.-based leader in imaging data infrastructure, have announced a new commercial agreement. Nexus-MD will introduce AZmed's FDA-cleared tools, AZtrauma and AZchest, to its U.S. network of healthcare providers. The partnership is intended to resolve an enduring operational problem in radiology, which involves speeding up diagnostic workflows without raising the burden on clinicians.
AZtrauma is designed to detect bone fractures in X-ray images of patients with acute musculoskeletal injuries. The AI solution emerged from joint work with radiology practitioners and multiple research centers that demonstrated its ability to reduce turnaround times by up to 83% and avoid up to 67% of false negatives. AZchest, developed with the same clinical rigor, recently received two new FDA clearances for applications intended to assist radiologists in the interpretation and detection of chest X-rays for lung nodules and triage capabilities for pneumothorax and pleural effusion, with extremely high clinical results. More than 2,500 facilities around the world use these AI solutions, which operate directly within the radiologist's current workflow, reducing the need for additional clicks or switching between systems.
“The partnership demonstrates our mutual commitment to developing diagnostic tools that combine clinical accuracy with practical workflow integration and universal accessibility,” said Julien Vidal, CEO of AZmed. “Nexus-MD demonstrates effective image exchange operationalization through its established healthcare connections across the United States. The company represents the ideal distribution partner for us.”
Nexus-MD, through its network, connects 9,000 urgent care centers and 19,000 imaging centers across the United States by providing a fully integrated platform. The Medical Image Aggregator (MIA) system of Nexus-MD automatically acquires medical images, which then get routed into clinical platforms including Epic, Cerner, and Athena. The platform extension of Nexus-MD now includes AZtrauma and AZchest, which enables providers to obtain images together with immediate, clinically relevant insights, using bounding boxes to highlight abnormalities directly within the X-ray images.
“At Nexus-MD, we’re focused on removing friction from the imaging process so providers can focus on care,” said Ali Bakhshinejad, CEO of Nexus-MD. “This partnership with AZmed brings together powerful AI and seamless image delivery to create a more complete, connected ecosystem for clinicians—faster insights, fewer clicks, and better outcomes."
Radiology departments now have access to a unique solution that combines both operationally feasible and clinically validated diagnostic support. Imaging specialists work under growing demands of rising patient numbers combined with rising diagnostic responsibilities, along with increasing administrative tasks. Through Nexus-MD's infrastructure, the AI solutions will solve various operational problems by shortening processing times, improving detection reliability, and reducing additional examination requirements without adding complexity to image acquisition.
